I am 5'6 and wear a 24 in denim, and the XS fit great, with enough room to be super comfortable.

This skirt was everything I was looking for except it had a weird extra panel of fabric across the belly that stuck out and wouldn't lay flat. At first I thought I had to retie the strings on either side to help pull it tight or that pulling them tighter may create a ruching, but it didn't. It was just extra material that hung there.
